Every weekend we walk the streets of Modesto with faith, food, and water, stopping to talk to people everyone else steps around.

Street Outreach

2nd Chance / New Life is a critical aid street outreach and religious ministry in Stanislaus County. We hand out food, hygiene kits, socks and cold-weather supplies to people living outside — no conditions in bad conditions, no paperwork, no questions about who deserves it. Christ has already decided your worth in grace and love.

A sandwich, a banana, a juice box, something sweet, a bottle of water, and a page about God. That is what we bring to people living outside in Modesto.

We do not ask people what they believe before we give them anything, and we never have. A printed page about God goes in the bag for anyone who wants to read it. Plenty do not, and they get the same food.

We need your help to provide ready-to-eat meals, hygiene kits and socks. In a normal week a whole lot of people are served and witnessed to. Checking in with our homeless neighbors and helping them see another day is worth the cost.

Socks and a complete hygiene kit into someone's hands — soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, razor, a towel, in a sealable bag — is our winter goal. For now we content ourselves with simple food needs and water, with a bit of reading on God, and whatever other help our gracious served community can take.

Donations Needed

It is not complicated, and it is not meant to be: it is food, handed to a person, by someone who saw and spoke to them directly.

For most of these needs, the more bulk sizing of individual items the better. Bulk collections help us take a large stock and direct it in line with conditions as they change.

Any donations, of any kind whatsoever, are deeply appreciated and received in gratitude and graciousness.

The Page in the Bag

Everything below goes out with every meal we hand over. It is printed on one sheet, folded, and put in the bag. Nobody is asked to read it and nobody is asked about it afterwards.

It is here because the same information should be reachable by anyone with a phone, not only by someone we happened to walk past.

The Roman Road

The other side of the sheet. It is the part about God, set out plainly, for anyone who wants to read it.

The problem with sin, and God’s solution

All sin — Romans 3:23–24

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

All condemned — Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

All saved by Jesus’ death — Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Responding to God’s gracious love

Faith — Romans 3:22

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

Repentance — Romans 2:4

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?

Confession — Romans 10:9

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Baptism — Romans 6:3–4

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Still to come
